As part of Al-Naji University’s efforts to spread knowledge and promote health awareness, and under the patronage of the President of Al-Naji University, Prof. Dr. Munir Hameed Al-Saadi, the university organized a scientific seminar entitled “Silent Threat of Antimicrobial Resistance”, which addressed one of the most serious contemporary health challenges, namely the resistance of bacteria to antibiotics Led by Ms. Esraa Awad.

The seminar discussed the definition of antibiotics and their mechanism of action, and highlighted the negative effects of their overuse or misuse, as they lose their effectiveness over time, enabling bacteria to develop resistance to them.

The seminar also presented statistics from an Iraqi hospital that showed the relationship between prescribed medications and bacterial resistance rates, a clear indication of the magnitude of the growing issue.

The seminar also included a review of the role of the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Iraqi Pharmacists Syndicate through the “Codia” system, a national system that aims to track medicines by issuing electronic labels that enable the verification of the drug’s path from its registration and entry into the country until it reaches the patient.

This seminar comes in the context of Al-Naji University’s commitment to raise community awareness of contemporary health risks and promote rational pharmaceutical and medical practices.
